Many Shelter Islanders are familiar with the work of esteemed artist August Mosca who lived here until his death in 2003. However, there is a great deal of Mosca’s work that hasn’t been shown here.  It has been said of his work that Mosca, "exults in the energy and voltage of the urban scene . . . . In contrast, his landscapes are languorous, opulent and sensual . . . his drawings, delicate filigrees in silverpoint and ink. A painter for all seasons, Mosca seamlessly blends classical principles, abstract clarity and Italian light to produce paintings of astonishing vigor, variety and luminosity."  Linda Betjeman will speak about the artist’s life and work.  Mr. Mosca’s work will be on view in the Community Room for the month of September.
